In the community of Wiesen the first Jazz Club of that region was established and began staging smaller concerts in a local pub. When plans came up for an anniversary of the community to pull up a tent at the soccer grounds, it was Fritz Thom who proposed to use it for a jazz festival. This first jazz festival in Wiesen marked the birth of the format "Jazz Festival" in Austria.
